Itinerary
We will pick up early morning travelers from their hotels and then drive to the town of Cachora (2800masl/91840ft). This trip will last approximately 3h30 min. In Cachora we will meet our horses and horse leader who will carry our camping equipment, food and a part of the backpack (5Kilos). At this point we can see the snow covered Padreyoc. And then we will start our walk towards Chiquiska (19km- approximately 6 hours.) First you will have to walk for 2H: 30min then we will have lunch at Capuliyoc pass (km 11½- 9020 ft. / 2750 masl ) from this point we can appreciate the deep valley of the Apurimac River, and the snow-covered caps that rise along the valley, continuing our walk we walk for 1 hour 45 minutes more towards Chiquiska (19 km- 6,233 feet / 1,900 masl) place where we are going to spend the night, here you can take a shower, buy some bottles of water, cokes. the Chiquisca Wheater is warm so we can take a nap or get relaxing on the grass, then we will have some tea time and after two hours we will have dinner, after all, we will go to our tents to sleep.
Early in the morning 6:00 after breakfast, we will continue walking to the deepest point, which is Rosalina beach (km 21/1550 masl / 4756 feet) and then we will cross the Apurimac River through a suspension walkway, From now on we will walk until approx. 2 hours to Santa Teresa (km24 ¼ -2100 masl / 6889 feet) we will take a breather, here you can buy water, Coca-Cola, or Gatorades, then we will continue walking until approximately 2 more hours to Marampata ((km28 -2900 masl / 9514 ft)), here we will have lunch, after lunch we will walk for 1H 30 minutes to reach the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, (km 32 / 3033masl / 9950ft), once we arrive at this incredible place we will have a guided tour of the entire the archaeological site, and after the visit we will walk 30 more minutes to our campsite to have lunch and spend the afternoon there and have dinner. Option: you can visit Choquequirao on the third day in the morning.
This day we will leave Choquekiraw and go towards Chiquisca place where we will camp, we will walk for 3 hours to Santa Rosa, and continue to Rosalina beach where we will spend some time in the Apurimac river .then we walk up to 1h 30 min. more to our camp.
Every day 14:00-18:30 We will meet at the office at 1:30 in the afternoon, then the bus will pick us up, after that we will start our City Tour. We will begin by visiting the Qoricancha, a wonderful ceremonial construction built during the Inca heyday. Later we will visit the Cathedral of Cusco.
In the Cathedral visitors can see beautiful ancient paintings, including the famous painting of the Last Supper, showing Christ and the apostles about to dine on a guinea pig. Later, we will head to the northern outskirts of Cusco, towards the Inca construction, such as Sacsayhuamán. Here we will walk through huge Inca walls, built with massive rocks weighing up to 130 tons, well equipped, with absolute perfection. Then, we will move on to another important Inca site known as Qenqo, a strange place, with underground passages, hidden in its perfect carved stones inside where the Incas probably mummified their dead. To finish our tour in the city, we will push even further to visit the Inca Baths of Tambomachay and the PucaPucara military viewpoint. and finally back to Cusco. LET’S VISIT: Qoricancha, the Cathedral, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay.
